The intestine is part of the digestive system and consists of two parts, the small intestine and the large intestine. The small intestine, starting from the lower part of the stomach, passes through the duodenum, which is the first part of the intestine, and completes the digestion of the intestinal contents. The small intestine secretes enzymes and digestive juices to ensure the absorption of food.
The large intestine helps to form stool by absorbing undigested waste and water from the small intestine. In addition, beneficial bacteria live in the large intestine to balance the intestinal flora. The large intestine terminates in the rectum and is where stool is stored and then expelled from the body.
The gut has many important functions of the digestive system. The small intestine is essential for digesting food, absorbing nutrients, and providing energy to the body. The large intestine helps with water and electrolyte absorption, stool formation and storage, and keeping the intestinal flora healthy.
