What is the Gallbladder?

The gallbladder is a small bag-shaped organ in which the bile produced by the liver is stored. The gallbladder is used to store the bile fluid from the liver and secrete it when the digestive system needs it.

Bile is necessary for the digestion of fats. Bile produced in the liver is stored by the gallbladder, where it is concentrated and used more effectively. During digestion, the gallbladder shrinks, sending bile fluid through the bile duct to the small intestine. Here, bile fluid is necessary for the digestion and absorption of fats.

The gallbladder also helps to remove harmful substances from the digestive system. Bile helps the body to excrete harmful substances through the digestive system.

The gallbladder is important for a healthy digestive system. However, various diseases such as gallstones, gallbladder inflammation can interfere with the normal functions of the gallbladder and cause serious problems.
